How to Adopt

Reasons For Adoption

If the alarming rate of deforestation in Ethiopia is not reversed by massive reforestation, the pending catastrophe on the population will be enormous.  This dire situation can only be solved through a participatory reforestation involving all, who love Ethiopia and the greater globe.

This generation has the duty and responsibility to reverse the trend of deforestation and pass a better environment and productive land to the next generation(s).

Hence, Reforestation Green International would like to invite individuals, agencies and religious organizations, who are aware of the threat of global warming to participate in this noble cause by adopting/sponsoring trees in Ethiopia. Whoever adopts a tree, is planting life, where there is none.

On behalf of the sponsor, RGIC, will plant and care for the adopted trees. The trees will be named after the sponosor or his/her loved ones. For example, if you adopt 50 trees at a rate of 0.50¢ (USD) per tree then you will contribue $25 (USD). This money will be used to:

  • Grow tree seedlings
  • Prepare reforestation sites for planting trees
  • Transport seedlings to various sites
  • Plant the number of trees you have sponsored in your name and or loved ones
  • Replace dead trees with new tree seedlings
  • Train farmers in bee keeping, honey production and marketing
  • Purchase and introduce fast maturing and drought resistant crop seeds for famers.
  • Manage the project.

By adopting a tree/trees, you are also adopting a farmer/farmers. Most of all you are tackling global warming. When you factor all the expenses (services) enumerated above, you may be adopting a tree for only $0.10 (USD) or less. The other services are essential for the survival of your tree and the farmer. When you adopt a tree it will be at a rate of 50¢ (USD) per tree. The 50¢ (USD) will cover the costs of the tree and all other services needed for the care and survival of the tree.

By sponsoring trees you are helping to heal the wounded land and the wounded lives. As a result of your participation in the reforestation project, the farmer will be self sufficient in agricultural production. He will be able to feed his family and himself. He will be free from famine. When he sees positive changes in the lives of his loved ones and himself and his environment, he will finally have hope in life. Then he will thank you from the bottom of his heart. He will pray for your good health, happiness and longevity.

If you would like to adopt trees please fill out and mail in the Donation Form (PDF).

Visiting Your Trees and/or Getting Information About Them

RGIC plans to implement the reforestation project in about two years. The project will be divided into a given number of plots. Each plot will have a number of acres or hectares.  Each acre will have a number of rows. Each row will have a number of units.  Each unit will have twenty trees. Therefore, when you adopt a unit you are adopting twenty trees. Each unit will have fifty trees and you will be given your unit(s) number.

You will be encouraged to visit your trees and participate in life-renewing reforestation projects by planting trees. If you wish to travel to Ethiopia, you will have to get an entry visa from the Ethiopian Embassy in Washington DC. After you have obtained the visa, you will have to make a flight reservation on the Ethiopian Airlines or any other carrier of your choice. Since the Ethiopian Airlines flies directly from Washington DC to Addis Ababa- Ethiopia, it will save you time and energy. For any additional information regarding the trip, you could contact RGIC anytime. Or

If you cannot afford to travel to Ethiopia, you might be able to request the branch offices of the United States Aid for International Development (USAID), the International Evangelical Church, the United Nations or the World Bank located in Addis Ababa to visit the reforestation sites and send you pictures and other pertinent information regarding the conditions of your trees. Since RGIC will forge partnership with the above international agencies, they might be willing to cooperate. Or

Upon your request, RGIC could provide you with pictures and information about your trees.

Please get involved. Planet earth belongs to all of us and future generations. We all need to reforest it and make it a friendly habitat for all living things. As we have inherited a better planet from our ancestors, it is our duty and responsibility to pass on to the next generations a planet, which is in a better condition than it is in now.

"If by life's roadside I can plant a tree, beneath whose shade some wearied head may rest, though I may never share its beauty, I shall yet be truly blest-though no one knows my name, nor drops a flower upon my grave, I shall not have lived in vain while here" -Anonymous.
